Ayurveda loves cooked food that is easy to digest. This leaves some of us who love smoothies for their ease and dense nutrition feeling a little lost. This smoothie recipe isn't an icy smoothie. Its warmth and blanched greens will ensure that it's easy to digest and all those nutrients are readily available.
Honey lemon ginger water has been a mainstay of my morning routine for years. I drink this concoction first thing every morning, 365 days a year. When I travel I'm always devising ways to make taking it with me easier. What's so great about it?
The lemon will facilitate digestion and elimination, a bonus in the morning! The acid of the lemon stimulates the liver, oxygenates the body, and activates our natural digestive enzymes. Ginger supports metabolism and agni. The honey will act as an ama scraper, pulling toxins out of the body. Try it for two weeks, even you coffee drinkers. My bet is that this will be your new first-beverage-of-the-morning of choice.
Add lemon, ginger, and coconut oil to hot water. When it has cooled, such that you can keep your pinky finger in it for a 5 count, it's cool enough to add the honey. (Honey at too high a temp causes ama!)
Drink as your first bevvie of the day, and notice your hydration, digestion, and elimination. cheers!
If you worship agni, you will be blessed with perfect health. ~ Dr. Vasant Lad
Agni is the fire of transformation. It is responsible for the digestion, absorption, assimilation, and transformation of what we take in (food and experiences) into energy. The well-known ayurved Dr. Lad, defines agni as: Awareness Governing Nutritional Intelligence. Your agni can be balanced, too low, too high, or irregular.
What we feed the agni, and as David Frawley says, "Everything in the universe is food", determines how our agni burns. Imbalanced agni can mean weakness, poor digestion, poor elimination, internal coldness, compromised immunity, fatigue, or generally a lack of bright, shiny, vitality. Balanced agni looks like strength, vitality, immunity, clarity of perception and mind, proper digestion and elimination, normal body temperature, and a healthy glow that permeates all parts of your being.
So, what are the things that imbalance and balance agni?
Ayurveda is clear, if you're experiencing the symptoms of imbalanced agni, there are many practices available to you to rekindle and balance your fire. Someone versed in ayurveda can help you determine how to best bring your agni back into balance. Make your choices an offering to your fire, swaha!

I just wanted to let you know how life-changing [the Spring Cleanse] was for me. I think I've ignored most of my life how my body responds to what I put into it. I can't remember when I felt this good. Energy good, anxiety low, fogginess gone.
I am writing to let you know of what a wonderful experience I had taking class with Kara these last few months. She was so in tune to what everyone seemed to need in the class. The way Kara ran class was informational, comforting, nurturing and challenging.
