tapas: the friction of evolution

TAPAS. The friction of evolution. The act of having one’s rough edges sanded away until what remains is a soft, polished, luminous finish.

This wood ‘egg’ found on the shore of Lake Michigan, reminds me that this process can be tumultuous, can take us through exposure to things the mind will label as unpleasant, will be a gradual, prolonged process taking months, seasons, years, and maybe longer, as the characteristics we use to define ourselves, give way to our purest essence.

If you find yourself in a period that feels particularly raw... If you’re acutely aware of parts of your external identity being worn away... Check-in, maybe you’re being polished. Maybe the waves, and sand, and debris of life are carving away the excess to reveal a finer form within.
