tools for the ayurvedic kitchen

keeping it simple

Cooking Ayurvedically inspired, balanced meals can seem challenging; but it doesn’t have to be! Preparing fresh, doshically-aligned meals that are both big on flavor, and nourishing to the body and mind, requires little more than a recipe, and some kitchen tools.

Meals that are simple to prepare and easy on ingredients are our favorite. In addition to the recipes provided on our blog, we’re going a step further, providing you with tried and true tools for every ayurvedic kitchen. We’ve listed our favorites, as well as how and why one might use them in the kitchen.

our favorite tools

mortar + pestle

the classic bowl shape mortar + pestle allows for grinding of herbs, spices or grains.

we use ours for crushing cardamom pods before adding to our Ayurvedic or Ayur-herbal chai, and for grinding fresh-roasted herbs and spices to add to our dishes.

the beautiful beige marble makes it too pretty to put away when not in use!

herb + spice pinch bowl

these cute olive wood pinch bowls serve specialty salts, sugar, spices and herbs easily at the table. fill it with any commonly-used herb!

spice jar measuring spoons

we love the the slim profile of these measuring spoons. fits easily into small-mouth herb + spice jars.

electric herb whisk

working with whole herb powders as a tea can mean that your herbs settle out quickly, causing sediment at the bottom of your cup.

we’ve found this electric herb wisk to be the perfect accessory for those want a smoother cup of herbal formula. a quick whisk, and your herbs are beautifully suspended in your brew.

it’s also perfect for foaming milk, preparing chai, or even ashwagandha hot chocolate.

ghee pot

if you haven’t used a ghee pot you don’t yet know the joy of having liquified ghee to spoon atop your meals.

ghee pots are placed directly on a stove burner to heat the ghee, making it easy to spoon with the included mini ghee ladle.

zavor multi-cooker

think Instapot, but better made and rated. what we use for all our dals, soups, and stews. bonus, it’s a pressure cooker we feel safe using.

cordless immersion blender

a hand-held immersion blender with variable speed. great for blending/pureeing soups, dals, and sauces.

ginger grater

fresh ginger is an ingredient in so many of our favorite recipes. this ceramic grater makes collecting and cleaning up, easy.

wide-mouth thermos set

a good wide mouth thermos is essential for packing Ayurvedic meals to take with you. no warming your kitchari up in a microwave, pack it in one of these.
