Khus is very cooling to body and mind, making it an excellent companion for Pitta Dosha. Sometimes thought of as ‘the fragrance of the soil’, this attar is rich and earthy, and can be pacifying for Vata where coldness is not an issue. 1 dram.
The word attar specifically refers to a botanical oil distilled into a base of sandalwood. Using an ancient process of manufacturing, traditional sandalwood attars are not simple blends of different oils. Specific plant material is hydro-distilled into sandalwood. This process can last for days as several distillations wash through sandalwood essential oil. The process of making and aging an attar can last from two weeks, to up to six months. Sandalwood acts as an excellent fixative, and therefore the sandalwood attars last on the skin, meaning only small amounts of attar are needed.
Use attars as you would any fine perfume. Because they are free of synthetics ingredients, their fragrances promote health, wellbeing, and happiness.
My teacher, Dr. Vasant Lad says, “Attar preparations are organic, non-chemical, and non-alcoholic. They can be used for marma therapy and aromatherapy… One drop of attar is applied to the radial artery, carotid artery, the heart center at the sternum, and one drop to the top of the head. Suddenly these molecules of attar make your entire aura become fragrant, and wherever you go you are highly welcome by the people… Apart from that, attars have a great self healing power. “
If irritation occurs, discontinue use. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.
